This week I have updated my Real Player to the latest Real Player v.11 and I am very impressed with it’s glossy look and amazing features. One of the interesting features is downloading the streaming videos on the web with one click.

In my previous posts, I explained about various tricks to download videos from YouTube, LiveLeak etc using Greasemonkey scripts. You might have also seen that there are lot of sites that help you to download the streaming videos into your system.
Now forget about all these tricks and sites, and install Real Player Version 11, which is available on the Real Player’s website here (Free Version). Get it, install it, and restart your system. Now, whenever you mouse over on a streaming content, you will see a link to download it with Real Player download manager. Without installing any script or software, now you can download videos from MySpace, Metacafe, Blip.tv, YouTube, Google Video, and almost all video streaming websites.

It has inbuilt download manager that shows you the progress of downloading and also lets you pause and resume the downloads.

Update March 15, 2009: Latest version supports Firefox 3 and Google Chrome too.

i like its..but its not work on firofox 3
@Hamid
I also feel bad that it does not support FF3. Whenever I need to download a video, i have to load the page in Internet Explore. There is a lot of discussion going on Real Player website to update the extension for Firefox 3. Hope they will update it.
yes..me too
I installed it, worked fine for few days and suddenly stops showing the blue window where one clicks to download videos..
any suggestions? I hesitate reinstalling as I have a subscription at the moment and fear it might get deleted.
Any help will be greatly appreciated !
Hi GH
It is not working with Firefox 3. If you are talking about Internet Explorer, you can right click on the streaming window and you can see an option to download with real player download manager. See if it solves the problem.
good
I really love realplayer download manager, but it does not show the download option in google chrome.
@ gopu
Thank you.
@ Ajay
Chrome is just released. We may expect it in future.
When I download one video using the realplayer streaming video uploader, I have to restart my system in order to download a second video. I don’t know why I cannot download more than one video at each system startup. I have checked my realplayer’s settings, my internet settings. I have enough room in my system and my videocard and everything are in updated and upgraded status too. Can anybody tell me what could be wrong in this case?
Thanks for any help.
Try to do these things and see if it is of help.
1. Uninstall Real Player.
2. Restart the system.
3. Download and extract Regseeker onto your desktop.
4. Run it and select the option “Clean Registry.” Once it shows the unnecessary registry entries, select all and delete them.
5. Restart the system.
6. Now install a latest copy of Real Player.
I installed Real Player before install Firefox, now the Download This Video Button just come out in Internet Explorer browser not in Firefox, how can I install now in my firefox??
Thanks please someone sendme a msg to rhemfur@hotmail.com
Thanks so much
@Martins
It seems that they have updated the plug-in. Just downloaded the latest version and it has added the latest working plugin to my Firefox. Uninstall the old version or outdated v11. Also, uninstall the Real plugin in your Firefox by going to Tools>Add-ons. Go to http:///www.real.com/ and select “Basic Player” and proceed with installation. Don’t forget to closed the Firefox and IE windows before installing it.
it’s very nice
i have installed real player 11 and its stand out feature of downloading videos from net was working very well with internet explorer 6 but as soon as i installed internet explorer 7 its downloading feature stopped working. suggest me what to do ????
You need to install the Real Player again. While installation it checks the browsers and integrates with them. Just uninstall it and install again the latest version. That should resolve the problem. If not, get back to me.
naveen sir i have re installed it three times but the problem is still there.
pls suggest something more.
@akhil goya
Try the things given in 14th comment in the same order and see. Before installing the new version, install Firefox, it works much better than IE.
Download the installer here: http://www.naveen.info/realplayer.exe
Once you click on the file, it will get all the latest files from Real and installs the latest version.
its not yet solved i have done what u instructed to me.
???
I am sorry that it did not work for you. Ask the Real Community to see if they can help you: http://real.lithium.com/real/board?board.id=realplayer
I use Firefox and reinstalling the new version worked well for me. Even it is integrated into the latest version of IE.
Dear Naveen,
I’ve been a silent reader of your blog over the last few months.
Before I say something, you must visit the site http://www.makeuseof.com for valuable free technical advices and stuff.I’m a great fan of the site.
Now although, Real Media player is a good option for capturing and downloading streaming videos, it has
certain defects as described below:
1. If the online video is a lengthy one running for 14 to 18 minutes, and if you have a slow internet connection (like mine)
and a laptop (to make things worse), the real media player will take 3 to 4 hours to download
an incomplete or halfway streaming video.
2. Worse, if the connection breaks, you have to restart the online podcast from the beginning.
3. Ok. If you’re patient to wait for 30 to 40 minutes for the online video to finish playing, and start the real player to start
the download process, it will still take atleast 1 to 2 hours for the video to download.
Better Alternative
Just visit the site http://www.ieaddons.com/en/search/?browse=true&search=flash%20player%20capture
and download this software called Bytescout Movies Extractor Scout. Look at the beauty
of this simple tool:
1. Web Url: http://www.ieaddons.com/en/search/?browse=true&search=flash%20player%20capture
2. Supports Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Opera browser.
3. Once the online video finishes playing, these videos are automatically stored in your
Internet explorer web browser and will stay in the browser for atleast months (or even years)
4. Once you click byte scout movie extractor, you can view all the flash videos (arranged one over the other by date)
in the left pane. Then simply RIGHT CLICK the flash video and save on your hard disk without loosing video and audio clarity.
5. You must of have adobe player installed on your pc to play the .flv files. Most online
videos are in flash video format.
Dark side:
It has 30 day trial limit. If you are willing to spend $19, this software is yours.
By the way, other browser enabled flash movie capture similar to Byte Scout Movie Extractor on the same page include:
Other Addons similar to this include:
a. Flash Player extensiion
b. Flash video Downloader
c. Download Studio
d. Shock wave player
Hope you liked my ideas. Thanks for reading.
Thanks for commenting Nivas. Streaming the whole video or downloading it into the system takes same time. Real player does not need the video to be streamed while downloading and you can even pause the downloading, so that you can resume it at a later time. Moreover, it is free. When something you can get for free, why you need to shell out the bucks. I am on 56 kbps connection and it works well for me.
Dear Naveen,
thanks for replying early and sorry for my late reply. I used to close my real player upon seeing the slow downloads and exiting the application halfway. I will now onwards use the real player for resuming stopped or broken downloads.
I’ve also made a note of the opensource download accelerator and it’s rocking on my winxp sp2. Keep up the great work!!
Thanks once again Nivas for taking time to write your experience with my suggestion. Keep visiting as I am going to write some good tutorials on different topics and subscribe to my feed through the box on the extreme left upper corner, so that you can get all the posts directly into your inbox.
Sorry to say, after months of enjoying RealPlayer and the Flash downloads I accumulated, I’ve lost the ability to view them. After recently updating to Flash 10, RP no longer shows the video. On my iMac where I have Flash 8 Pro installed, all my RP videos became Flash 8 files. Boy, am I disappointed. Any ideas on what happened here?
Check if Wimpy plays it. Read: http://www.naveen.info/2007/05/19/wimpy-standalone-free-flv-player/
its the best
I have a tiny problem I wish you help me Naveen…
The download tab appears to me and everything is fine, but the problem is that sometimes when I “finish” watching a video and press the “Download This Video” button, it starts to download it again, instead of finishing it, cuz you know when you watch a whole video on for example YouTube and then press it, it immediately get stored in your computer…
I hope you got what I meant….
Thanks
I thought in the same way, but it seems that RealPlayer is not catching the video from temporary Internet cache.
Oh…. is there a solution to this issue, cuz sometimes I watch a 60 MB video, and I want to have it, then it starts to re-download that 60 MB again, that’s quite a deal for me…
Thanks
I have not come across any solution. If I find a video good after watching few seconds, then I will start downloading it with Real Player and close the Youtube window.
good
Hi, ive recently discovered real player and absolutely love it. however its started to give me a few problems.
after the video is downloaded onto my realplaayer, and i start watching, it seems that realplayer stops the video before it finishes. the time at the lower rightr corner shows that the video is 3:47 / 42:15 and yet it stops and gives the option to either play again or share the link? its happened before but right near the end of a video so ive not bothered to see if theres a problem..
any ideas?
Are you on a slow connection. Sometimes I noticed that it just downloads a part of the video and shows that it has downloaded full video.
CRITICAL UPDATE!!!
Update ur real player!!! Added support for downloading videos on google chrome.
sir it is my probliem i have installed windows latest version 7 and i installed realy player 11 when i use youtube and download any video i am not watching download this video on during running video. plz help 4 times i have reinstalled real player but problem is same.
I don’t know whether it is compatible with Windows 7 or not. Just ask in the Real Player forum here: http://real.lithium.com/real/board?board.id=realplayer
Is there anyway to download more than 2 videos at a time?
You can download unlimited videos at the same time using Real Player Downloader. I use it to download at least 10 videos at the same time. Open a streaming video, right click, and select “Download This Video to RealPlayer” and then open another video and repeat the process.
When I try download more than 2 at the same time, the 3+ ones will just sit on “Waiting…” and then “Unable to download” But as soon as one of the downloads are completed the next one will start.
You might be on a slow connection. Just uninstall it and install once again to see if the problem persists. Use RegSeeker to clean the registry entries once you have uninstalled.
Thanks a lot bro
But is it tru That ( You can download unlimited videos at the same time using Real Player Downloader. I use it to download at least 10 videos at the same time. Open a streaming video, right click, and select “Download This Video to RealPlayer” and then open another video and repeat the process. )
Thanks
Yes it is. I download a lot of videos and I can vouch for that. It depends on the speed of your net connection.
My connection is pretty fast, I’ll try reinstalling. Thanks for the speedy responses btw.
Hi Naveen
I have been using Real Player’s this feature since quite some time and it’s really good. However, whenever the internet connection get down for a few seconds… we have to restart the download from scratch.
Is there any way, we can resume broken downloads using this tool of Real Player..?? (I hope you can imagine this torture experience – total download size is 200MB and connection gets broken at 175MB… n start all over again to complete the rest 25MB…a huge waste of time.. )
i have been using real player and its cool but when i tried to delete some of the videos i have downloaded using real player i was told that i needed permission to do that ,i do not understand please explain and also tell me how to delete these videos
Have you logged in as an Administrator? XP may prevent other users from deleting the files.
no i am able to delete videos which are in .flv format only those videos which are in mp4 dont get deleted
hello…

i really hope u can help me…thanx 4 caring..tc

I recently installed both real player SP and the latest version of Firefox. I had no problems downloading flv. videos from the sites I visit, but recently certain sites will give me unable to download while others would download as normal. I also notice at the bottom left side of the page it would say “Error on Page”. Any suggestions ?
Try this easy way…. http://www.naveen.info/2009/08/28/downloading-streaming-videos-got-easier-flashgot/
Hey naveen Its really good that ur helping out a lot of people over here.I just went through the whole thread thoroughly but could not find anyone else having the same problem.. well i had kept a few large high definition videos to download 1 downloaded but the other ones which were about 196 mb & 111mb when i checked in the real player downloads folder under videos both the videos were there and their size was increasing as the download proceded & when about 2-3 mb was left in the videos real dowload manager froze neways after i waited for it to respond it showed that it was unable to download & when i checked the real payer downloads folder i saw that both of them were completely missing. Any idea where exactly the incomplete videos are stored coz even if i miss the last part of the video its fine…
I have posted a better way of downloading videos with a Firefox extension called FlashGot. No need to install bulky real player. Read it @ http://www.naveen.info/2009/08/28/downloading-streaming-videos-got-easier-flashgot/
i like real player because it’s intersting
very good
Please tell me eventhough full length video is playing online, but with “Download this video” with Realplayer could not download full lenth movie. Its download only first 10-15 minutes video. How can I download full movie with realplayer ?
Look at its alternative: http://www.naveen.info/2009/08/28/downloading-streaming-videos-got-easier-flashgot/ It is better than that and simple small plugin.
In realplayer, when you are downloading huge videos and you think the connection may snap when you are just to finish that last bit, then don’t worry. open the preference section under tools menu. then click on connection, and increase the connection time to 180 sec and the server to 120 sec. then close the box.
Now when you start downloading the video ,and the connection snaps, just wait till the connection resumes. Then click the resume button in the realplayer downloader and then again click on ” download this video ” floating tab , which appears on the video , which you are downloading .
It’s amazing to notice , that realplayer resumes the broken download and proceeds further.
TRY IT OUT !
I have not tried downloading movies, using realplayer. But downloading video of any size using my method should work. If realplayer is not allowing to download full length movie, then one of the possible cause may be – you need to purchase the full version.
though idm internet download manager is not free, it can download any media from any webpage, n it supports all web browsers….if u want an alternative for firefox u may search for plugins in addons.mozilla.org using the keywords ‘download flash video’
I just downloaded the new RealPlayer and it will download only 19 or 21 seconds of a video instead of the whole thing. HELP!!!!
my realplayer only downloads the first 21 seconds of a song, why? please help
Try this: http://www.naveen.info/2009/08/28/downloading-streaming-videos-got-easier-flashgot/
Dear Navin,
First time I am going through your blog. Fond interesting as I am using Realplayer for downloading. I have the same problem as someone mentioned in this blog. The real player starts the downloading all over again when I click the download button. This is not there with all the videos. Some times it quickly saves the streamed video. What could be the reason.
Downloading with Flashgot plugin for Firefox is much more easier than downloading with Real Player. Read more about it here: http://www.naveen.info/2009/08/28/downloading-streaming-videos-got-easier-flashgot/
i like
thank u
I’m having a problem downloading videos – not YouTube or other social media websites. I’m running Real Player 11 on a Windows 7 computer and XP on another. The same thing happens on both. The “download this video” tab appears (so the video is not DRM’d), the progress bar comes up and the file downloads completely. Then it says file can’t be found! This is getting very frustrating. Is there a fix for this or am I SOL?
Lot of people getting problem with this method. Checkout a simple method here: http://www.naveen.info/2009/08/28/downloading-streaming-videos-got-easier-flashgot/
I am facing problem with real player. i downloaded one file through real player down loader but in halfway my system get restarted so the file downloading stopped in halfway. now i cant able to delete that particular file.

i have administration rights to the laptop also.
Thanks for anyone helping….
Lot of people are getting this problem. I have added this post: http://www.naveen.info/2009/08/28/downloading-streaming-videos-got-easier-flashgot/ to help with downloading streaming videos. This plugin is very tiny and easy to use. Let me know if you need further help.
my downloads work fine bt due to poor connection, smtym the dwonload stops inbetween leaving half video downloaded, then agn one has to begin from the scratch :/ is ther anyway to avoid it??
